There’s nothing like a getaway from home to help you unwind, relax and re-energize. We all need a break once in a while. Keep
in mind though, that an empty house is a tempting target for burglars. The last thing you want or need is to come home from a nice, relaxing vacation, to find that you have been a victim of break and enter.
By taking some simple preventative measures, you can go on your vacation with peace of mind. Below are some tips to protect your homewhile on your much deserved vacation.
1. Ask someone you trust to keep an eye on your home. He/she can open and close your curtains, turn on the lights, feed your pets, water your plants, bring in mail, move your car around once in a while, etc. This will make your home look occupied.
2. Close your windows properly and lock your doors. Use a bar to secure the patio door.
3. Activate your alarm system. Don’t forget to give the code to the person who is looking after your home. Notify your alarm provider of your absence.
4. Don’t tip off criminals on the web or social media. Thanks to social networks, news travels faster than ever before. Sometimes, criminals get wind of the fact that you aren’t home. As excited as you are about your vacation, try not to share the news or post pictures online!
